Because of their long dependence on body and mind after the drug and can cause withdrawal symptoms if discontinued very strict. Those who are not addicted, like Benadryl (which is in Tylenol PM and unisom, no potential for addiction, etc.) - to be stopped without any withdrawal symptoms, but the problem remains the dream can be there.
Not to the addictive, such as barbiturates, actually prescribed by many doctors. Some even require, benzodiazepines, is addictive, but not both.
Ambien and lunesta is not as addictive, but still potential for abuse and dependence.
I mentioned Benadryl.
For a list of some Rx drugs, they are not addictive:
1. Rozerem
2. Small doses of Elavil or Trazodone
